Empowering Women to Shape Lebanon’s Economic Future

Introduction
As Lebanon works toward a more inclusive and resilient economy, empowering women has become a crucial pillar of sustainable development. This webinar, part of our SDG series at Rural Entrepreneurs, focuses on SDG 5: Gender Equality, a global commitment to ensuring women’s full participation in economic, political, and social life. In rural areas as well as urban centers, women remain an untapped force for innovation, entrepreneurship, and national growth.
About the Webinar

“She Leads: Women in the Economy” brought together inspiring voices to explore the role of Lebanese women in shaping the country’s economic future. Implemented online from Shouf GIL lab, the session examined the challenges women face in the job market, the structural barriers limiting their leadership opportunities, and the urgent need to build a more inclusive economy driven by equal participation.
This event is part of Rural Entrepreneurs’ mission to promote youth empowerment, gender equality, community innovation, and sustainable development across Lebanon.

MP Halimeh El Kaakour, Advocate for Women’s Rights

A Lebanese Member of Parliament and a strong voice for gender equality, MP El Kaakour shared her personal journey navigating politics and academia. Her story shed light on the resilience required for women to break into leadership roles and challenge long-standing stereotypes. She emphasized how empowering women directly contributes to national economic growth and community well-being.

Farah Al Hassanieh, Journalist & Founder of Bchoufak

As moderator, Farah Al Hassanieh guided the conversation with impactful questions on gender equity, women’s representation in the workforce, and the role of youth in driving societal change. Her insights encouraged participants to think critically about the barriers facing Lebanese women and how grassroots initiatives can help shift cultural norms.

بينما يعمل لبنان على بناء اقتصاد أكثر شمولية واستدامة، يبرز تمكين المرأة كعنصر محوري في دعم التنمية الوطنية. يأتي هذه الندوة ضمن سلسلة البرامج التي نظمتها جمعية رواد الأعمال Rural Entrepreneurs في إطار أهداف التنمية المستدامة SDG 5المساواة بين الجنسين (Gender Equality). يهدف هذا الهدف إلى ضمان مشاركة النساء الكاملة في الحياة الاقتصادية والسياسية والاجتماعية. فالمرأة في المناطق الريفية كما في المدن تُعد قوة أساسية للابتكار وريادة الأعمال والنمو الاقتصادي.

جمعت الندوة “هي تقود: المرأة في الاقتصاد” أصواتًا مؤثرة لمناقشة الدور الحيوي للنساء في تشكيل مستقبل لبنان الاقتصادي. نُفّذ اللقاء عبر جلسة إلكترونيه من مختبر جيل في السمقانيه الشوف، مسلّطه الضوء على التحديات التي تواجه النساء في سوق العمل، والعوائق البنيوية التي تحدّ من وصولهن إلى مواقع القيادة، والحاجة الملحّة لبناء اقتصاد أكثر شمولية.

أدارت الحوار بطرح أسئلة معمّقة حول المساواة الجندرية وتمثيل المرأة في سوق العمل ودور الشباب في التغيير المجتمعي. وأسهمت رؤيتها في تعزيز التفكير النقدي لدى المشاركين حول التحديات اليومية التي تواجه النساء في لبنان.

وأكدت الجلسة أن النمو الاقتصادي المستدام لا يتحقق من دون تمكين نصف المجتمع.
